1.

The original hollow rudder shaft broken in two, lucky it happened in the car and not on the water otherwise it would have been time to build a new rudder and shaft!

2.

File off the remaining part of the hollow shaft level with the top of the rudder. 

3.

File any internal burs away inside the original tube.

4.

Using a piece of solid brass rod that matches the inside diameter of the original hollow shaft test fit to ensure the rod goes a fair way down inside the the original hollow shaft.

 5.

Measure and cut a piece of solid rod and a piece of hollow tube (the same daimeter as the original hollow tube) to the correct length. Use your old broken piece as a guide to the correct length.

6.

Score all mating surfaces lightly with a file to ensure good keying of these surfaces and then glue the hole assembly together with epoxy resin and leave to dry.
